Senior Robotic Automation Design Engineer

Our automation team designs and deploys some of the most advanced robotic machine tending installations in industry to enable autonomous process control for continuous operations.

YOU WILL
- Lead the mechanical, electrical, and systems design of custom automation equipment, including end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), infeed systems, workholding, and safety systems.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications & schematics form manufacturing, testing and assembly.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and operational guidelines.
- Regularly update and refine documentation based on design changes and feedback from stakeholders.
- Engage with suppliers and vendors to source materials and components that meet technical and budgetary constraints.
- Conduct system analysis to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring robust and reliable designs.
- Oversee the build and integration of custom equipment, working closely with manufacturing and assembly teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design and integration issues during system commissioning.
- Design comprehensive test procedures for validating the performance and reliability of automation systems.
- Develop standardized testing protocols for mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Conduct system-level testing to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Analyze test results and provide detailed feedback to improve system performance and resolve issues.
- Drive the conceptualization and development of innovative products to enhance automation capabilities.
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost analysis, and proof-of-concept development for new technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify customer pain points and translate them into actionable design requirements.
- Document design processes and maintain thorough records of product development.
- Design scalable and modular automation solutions that align with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Prototype new products and iterate based on testing, stakeholder feedback, and market research.
- Travel to customer sites to install and commission automation systems.
- Perform on-site testing and ensure systems meet performance specifications and customer requirements.
- Provide hands-on training and support to customer teams during the initial operation of the equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues encountered during deployment to ensure successful project delivery.
- Collaborate with customers to gather feedback for continuous improvement of system performance and usability.
- Ensure all site activities comply with safety regulations and best practices.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget by proactively managing risks and challenges.
- Communicate progress and technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support the development of project proposals and cost estimations for custom solutions.
- Ensure all automation solutions adhere to industry safety standards and regulatory requirements, conducting risk assessments and implementing necessary safeguards.
- Provide remote technical support for deployed systems, addressing customer issues and questions promptly.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers.
- Review work done by junior team members, providing constructive feedback and ensuring quality standards.
- Lead by example, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
YOU HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering or a technical degree in Controls, Industrial, or Robotic systems (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of experience in an automation, systems, or controls engineering role.
- Experience with industrial robotics and CNC machining including: robot / PLC programming, end of arm tool design, fixturing / workholding, and safety systems.
- A strong technical background and understanding of software and electronics.
- Willingness to travel and perform technical integrations at customer sites.
- Ability to effectively communicate on technical challenges with customers.
- Ability to invent novel solutions to challenging technical problems.
- Strong sense of ownership and pride in creating robust, reliable automation.
